WELCOME TO SALTBOX
Our original founding vision was to provide Christian support and encouragement for local faith groups to help them flourish. Since 2001, however, Saltbox has developed a range of charitable caring initiatives for vulnerable adults.
Restart
Restart supports individuals who are homeless or at risk of homelessness. The service provides a home and tailored support to help individuals make the changes that can lead to a better life, addressing complex issues such as unemployment, offending behaviour, mental health and addiction. Our team delivers structured support, monitoring, client involvement and peer mentoring. It also provides internal and external training, volunteer opportunities and external mentoring support, debt and money management support, and ‘move on’ programmes. Restart has strong partnership relationships with Police, Probation and Social Services.
CareLink
CareLink is Saltbox’s older people’s service in Stoke-on-Trent that delivers support for vulnerable older people, providing free ‘keep in touch’ telephone calls for vulnerable and elderly adults who are often socially isolated, frail, housebound, and lonely or have limited mobility. This service helps to reduce social isolation, loneliness and encourages independent living. CareLink has pioneered a partnership with the local Clinical Commissioning Group to include an additional CareLink visitation focus, which gives practical support to some clients.
Money Matters
Money Matters is a free debt advice service in Stoke on Trent that supports people experiencing problems with money management problems and/or debt. This confidential service helps to prepare income and expenditure budgets, negotiates payment plans with creditors, assists in the provision of Debt Relief Orders, supports clients through bankruptcy procedures and represent our clients in court proceedings. Money Matters provides help for Restart clients and also works in partnership with Stoke Foodbank to provide debt advice for its clients.
DONATE TO SALTBOX
Saltbox has provided a much-loved and valued service for communities across Stoke-on-Trent and North Staffordshire since 1987. Our work in the community continues to grow and influence our city for the better.
We have always relied on the support of our contributors. We can only make difference with your help…
No matter how much or how little you donate we really value your support and by giving to the Saltbox you can be assured that 100% of your donation is put to causes that really need your support.
“Faith and charity have long gone hand in hand. The origins of early charitable activity in Great Britain are closely tied with religion and faith. Many of today’s significant charities and funders … were founded in a strong tradition of faith. NPC’s first piece of research on faith-based charities in 2014 — Questions of Faith — found that nearly one in five charities in England and Wales was faith-based. From international development to homelessness, faith-based charities operate throughout the charitable sector.”
For over a decade, Faith Action Audits (FAAs) have been delivered by Saltbox since 2006 as a means to highlight the community contribution of faith groups locally and nationally to measure how much the faith community is contributing to the lives of local people across Britain.

The audit kick started a culture of sharing good practice among faith groups, and has helped them to explore more ways of providing support, training and opportunities to the local community. Statutory and other partners also began to see the value and extent of faith-based work, stimulating more partnership engagement, especially in the Local Area Agreement.

Working with the averages and extrapolating to include all of the faith groups (those who responded and not) we can say that by 2010, faith groups were contributing well over £10 MILLION in volunteer hours to local communities across Staffordshire each year.
